DC vs OOOH/Versatile Rockers/Dylan & Lennon songs

vs.

Week 766 of our Stones poll is here, and this week, and for the first time this year, we return to the series of questions that a couple of years ago turned into our regular VS poll, and that’s our Stones’ album vs Stones album polls. This new series will be held for the 1965 US album December's Children (And Everybody's), and as has been the case since we started to ask this series of questions, I name the series after the album in question, but for this one, it wasn’t as easy as it was for the previous albums, but anyway, we will call this series the “The twelfth month's poll for kids (and everybody else)”. Okay, it’s sounds a bit corny perhaps, but it’s all I could think up tonight in the last minute, so it will have to do for now. Anyway, this week’s new question asks: December's Children vs Out Of Our Heads, which album do you like the best? Both of these albums were released in 1965, with OOOH first, on September 24, and it made it all the way to number 1 on the Billboard charts. It contained 12 tracks, although not all of the songs were the same on the US and UK versions, so when you vote, you should go with the version you know best.

December's Children (And Everybody's) was named after the month it was released in and was the third Stones album release of ’65. It also contained 12 tracks and reached No. 4 in the US and went gold.

So which album will you pick? To vote, click here: Stones Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Stones poll, we asked: What is your favorite Stones song in the style of gospel/negro spirituals? This one turned into a very popular question I see, as it was the most voted on poll last week, and that usually isn’t the case for the Stones poll. “Shine a Light” won by a nice margin, with 17.5% of the vote count. To see the full, final results from last week’s Stones poll, just click on here: Stones Weekly Poll - week 765 – poll results. You can also check out the final results from this poll at the Stones Top Picks Page 1.

Now let’s head over to the Classic Rock Poll, where it’s week 408, and as usual we will run the normal 2 poll questions. Our first question is: Who is (or was) the most talented and versatile Rock musician? I added in the word “talented” to this question, as I didn’t want to just ask for the most versatile rocker, but the one who was the best at being versatile.

When using the word “versatile” here, I made up the list of 42 artists by how many different instruments they could play, although one needed to be able to play more than just say, guitar and keyboards, I was looking at the ones who can play several different kinds of instruments. Plus if you like, you can feel free to consider other forms of versatilely when voting, like if they also were/are record producers, writers, and if they sing in different styles, although still, the number of different instruments should still be the main thing to look at, since we are talking “musicians” here.

With 42 choices, we almost had enough names to make this a multiple part poll, but I think we should be able to pick one person out of this list. Chances are I might have missed a rocker or 2, if so, please let me know. But only 3 female names are on this list, Janis Joplin, Cyndi Lauper, and Annie Lennox, so did I miss somebody? Interesting thing with the women vs the men on the list, although these 3 ladies could play several instruments each, on their albums they rarely did, as usually they only sang lead, whereas the men seem to go out of their way to play as many instruments as they knew how to play – and sometimes on just one song. Guess it’s some kind of macho thing with the guys?

Anyway, who will you choose? To vote, just click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

For our second Rock Poll question, we have the usual VS poll, and for one more week we look at a song written by Bob Dylan that others covered. So this week’s VS question asks: 'All I Really Want to Do' (original by Bob Dylan) vs 'All I Really Want to Do' (cover by The Byrds) vs 'All I Really Want to Do' (cover by Cher), which version is best? Dylan wrote and recorded this one in 1964 and it was released on his LP Another Side of Bob Dylan and yes, it was another folk-rock song for him.

Sonny and Cher were at first going to record this song together, but Sonny then decided it would be better for his wife to sing alone and make it her first solo single release, which it was when released in May of 1965. A month later the Byrds released a rock version of this song, although their cut didn’t sell as well as Cher’s, who made it to #15 on the US charts, whereas the Byrds version only got to US #40 (but their cover charted much better in the UK, as did Cher’s).

As usual there will be video links to each song in the voting booth so you can have a listen before you vote. To cast your vote in this week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s Rock poll, the first question asked was this: What is the best rock song title that contains either an acronym or abbreviation in its title? The top 8 picks were very close in the voting, with “D'Yer Mak'er” by Led Zeppelin (for 'Did Yer Make Her?) being picked as the top – well in this case, the top abbreviated song title, taking in 10.6% of the votes. “S.W.L.A.B.R” by Cream ( for 'She Was Like a Bearded Rainbow), placed with 10.4%, and “Pow R. Toc H.” by Pink Floyd (for 'Power Toke') came in third at 10.2%.

In last week’s VS poll we asked: 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue' (original by Bob Dylan) vs 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue' (cover by The Animals), which version is best? A very close finish to this question! To find out which song was chosen, just click here : Classic Rock VS Poll week 407 . You can also check out the final results at the Classic Rock’s site’s VS page.

Finally, let’s head over to the Beatles’ weekly poll, where it’s week 161, and we will continue looking for the best sung Beatles song, by voting each week for the best one song sung by each Beatle, and then in the last week of voting we will put the top 4 songs chosen for all 4 Fabs up against each other and see who’s singing is picked out of that bunch. So this week’s question is: Of the Beatles songs that John sings lead on, which one do you feel he sang the best? (Part 2 of 4) We are listing the songs John sang lead on going by alphabetic order, with another 29 songs to choose from this week. To vote, just click on: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatles poll we asked: Of the Beatles songs that John sings lead on, which one do you feel he sang the best? (Part 1 of 4) Talk about another close poll! I usually note that whatever song takes first place in a multiple part poll, it don’t matter what that song is until the final poll is run, but with that in mind, we had 3 songs tie for first place last week. Here are the 11 songs that landed in the top 10: A Day in the Life (8.7%), Don't Let Me Down (8.7%), Happiness Is a Warm Gun (8.7%); Come Together (7.9%); Dear Prudence (7.7%), Girl (7.7%); A Hard Day's Night (7.5%), Help! (7.5%); The Ballad of John and Yoko (7.2%), Bad Boy (6.8%), Eight Days a Week (6.8%).

Well a new week is upon is; I do hope it turns into a good one for you, and thanks to all of you who vote each week in our polls!
