Brasstones/Cowbells/Pattie H

It’s time for week 723 of our Stones poll, and the question this week is: What is the best Brass/Horns (excluding Sax) in a Stones song? Last week we looked at the sax alone, so this week we’ll look at the rest of the horns.

Like Bobby Keys came up a lot for the Stones when looking at who was on sax, with the horns it’s Jim Price who you might think of, and yes, his name is on this week’s poll choice list more than anybody else.

Just like what was the case in last week’s poll, this week’s question isn’t asking for your favorite song listed, but whatever song you feel has the best horns - or -where the horns fit in a song the best.

Just click here to vote: Stones Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Stones poll, we asked: What is the best Saxophone heard in a Stones song? Well I was sure that I knew before the poll started which song was going to win this poll, since there just isn’t too many rock sax parts like you got on “Brown Sugar”, thanks to Bobby Keys, and I figured most Stones fans would agree to that. Well, what do I know, BS came in second to another song where Keys is still blowing sax - “Can't You Hear Me Knocking”. It was a very close vote, but really, most of you feel the sax is better on CYHMK than on BS? I’m surprised, but it’s not the first time I’ve been surprised by a poll result and I’m sure it won’t be the last.

You can view the full, final results from this poll by clicking here: Stones Weekly Poll – week 722 – poll results.

Now let’s move to the Classic Rock Weekly Poll, where it’s week 365, and we will once again run 2 poll questions this week. Here’s this week’s first question: What rock song contains the best use of a cowbell? (Part 2 of 3) I would say after looking at the results from part 1 of this question, that we all know our cowbell songs well enough. With that said, I still suggest visiting YouTube and play any of the songs listed in this week’s poll that you don’t know well enough, since remembering which song has the best cowbell isn’t easy, unless you know the song real good. And like with the Stones poll, please don’t pick your favorite songs listed; we aren’t looking for that.

So, which song with the best cowbell will you vote for? To make your pick, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

This week's second Rock Poll question is the usual “VS” poll series of questions, and we ask this: 'What's Your Name' (by Lynyrd Skynyrd) vs 'Stay with Me' (by Faces), which song about a one night stand is better?

I must say, I very much love both of these songs about groupies. In both songs, the rock star can’t remember the name of the gal he just had, that’s what happens when you’re living on the road playing one city after another and seeing many different groupies. In the Faces song (released in November, 1971), written in part by future Stone Ron Wood, the rocker may or may not be on the road, but like in the Skynyrd song (released in November, 1977) he offers her cab fare home while forgetting her name again (her name was Rita).

To pick the song you dig most, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s Classic Rock Poll, the first poll question was: What rock song contains the best use of a cowbell? (Part 1 of 3) Don’t know if any of you had SiriusXM’s Classic Vinyl rock station on tonight, but I did as I was working on the polls tonight, and deejay Dennis Elsas commented about his seeing this best rock song with a cowbell list online this week. Bet it was this poll that Dennis saw! Cool if so!

Anyway, here are the top 10 songs that live on to part 3 of the poll: ‘Time Has Come Today’ - The Chambers Brothers (20.4%); ‘Don't Fear the Reaper’ - Blue Oyster Cult (17.6%); ‘You Can’t Do That’ - The Beatles (11.8%); ‘Drive My Car’ - The Beatles (10.6%); ‘Down On The Corner’ - Creedence Clearwater Revival (10.3%); ‘(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction’ - The Rolling Stones (9.3%); ‘Give It To Me’ - J. Geils Band’ (4%); ‘ Hell's Bells’ - AC/DC (2%), ‘Little Willy’ – Sweet (2%); ‘Poor Poor Pitiful Me’ - Linda Ronstadt (1.8%).

In last week’s VS Rock poll we asked: “'Boys” (by The Beatles) vs “I'd Much Rather Be With the Boys” (by The Rolling Stones), which song is better? A very very close finish in the voting to this poll, which was how the votes were coming in all week long, very close, although the Fabs song usually stayed ahead for most of the week by a vote or two. Did it hold on and keep first place in the end? Well, to see the full, final results from this VS poll, click on: Classic Rock Poll week 364 . You can check out past VS poll results – including last week’s results, here .

Okay, now on to week 118 of the Beatles poll. This week’s question is: What was the best rock song written about Pattie Boyd-Harrison? Pattie was of course married first to George Harrison, after the 2 met on the set of the Beatle movie A Hard Day’s Night, where model Pattie, a very pretty blond, had a wee part in the film (above photo is from the movie). Then a few years later, Eric Clapton’s met Pattie, fell in love with her and in time she would leave George for Eric and become his wife.

Are there any other women who have had as many hit rock songs written about them as Pattie has? Some will say that the best song ever written by George, along with the best song ever written by Eric, were both songs they wrote about Pattie, and those 2 songs, along with 7 others, are listed in this week’s poll.

So, which song about Pattie will you go with? Click on Beatles Weekly Poll to let us know.

In last week’s Beatles poll, we asked: Let It Be vs Let It Be... Naked, which version of the album is better? Well the fans have spoken, and we clearly like the Phil Spector work over what Paul wanted put out instead for the LIB album, and not for just this question, but also from the several other poll questions we asked in the past few weeks. Last week saw another landslide choice made, with the Phil Spector produced LIB getting the nod.

To find out by how big a percentage that album won by, click on this link:

Beatle’s Weekly Poll – week 117. The results from this poll will also show up on this page: Beatles VS page .

Thanks to all of you who take part in all of our weekly polls, and also in our on-going polls, too!
