I wasn't going to list "That Smell" but then I ran into a thread about the song where several LS fans were insisting the song was about both drugs, booze and coke, so that got me to list it.
It's about substance abuse in general. RVZ's wife had just given birth to a baby girl and it made him realize that the band needed to change their boozing and drugging ways. He wanted to see his daughter grow up.
In 1976, two of the band's guitarists were involved in drunk driving accidents within a few days of each other. Gary Rossington hit an oak tree (which is now a tourist attraction in Jacksonville...) with his shiny new car and was seriously injured, forcing the band to delay the start of their summer tour.
The opening of the song describes the accident in 11 words: Whiskey bottle, brand new car, oak tree you're in my way. And RVZ mentions Rossington again later in the song: Now they call you Prince Charming, can't speak a word when you're full of 'luudes. "Prince Charming" was a nickname the band used for Rossington.
That's what the song is about.
