RE: Non sell outs are your friend....

I honestly don't believe that the Stones themselves are as greedy as it may seem. Surely a little, but they've got to be succumbing to some degree to the pressures from management/marketers/business/sponsors who all want a cut, right?

I tend to agree with you about the Stones. The high prices aren't cool but what it is really hurting is the scalpers. They could price/sell most of the arena for $250, be in line with their peers in the industry and sell out easily. And people would still compain about prices. This pricing structure is not allowing sell outs... but it is producing bargains for the final concert goer. My buddy scored his ticket on Sunday in the lower bowl just off the floor for $250. People have to stop whining. There is nothing wrong with that price. You go to a Broadway show with absolutely no big names and you pay that much for 2 hours of entertainment.

People also have to remember that there are still plenty of people that have never seen the Stones and are willing to pay full price. My waiter for breakfast on Sunday was proud to inform me he would be finishing work early and going to the show. When I asked him about it, he told me it was his first show, absolutely loved them and mentioned all the books he had recently read. He said buying the tickets was a no brainer.

And when you get into the show, the place is full. I am sure there were empty seats but it didn't look that way from my vantage point. And as 2000 Man suggested, the vendor really just has to focus on getting people in the door. They will make money. Beers were $13 in Oakland on Sunday! And if you get one of those cheap $85 tickets... those people head in early because of the deal and potential chance they may have scored a general admission pit pass. So they are getting those folks money in other ways. You also have to remember that they are probably averaging $100/person on merchandise sales... the average on the ABB tour was something around $75 (over 6 years ago) and the Stones were industry champions in this area. So I am not sure anyone (except the scalpers) are losing money on this tour.

Saying all that, I fully expect this leg to be it for North America now. You can never say never but it isn't looking good in the long term. So if you haven't seen the Stones and still want to... you better do it really fast or just start dealing with your regrets for a long time to come. Don't have a ticket but you are near a venue... go, you will get in some how.

It's Only Rock n' Roll Ronnie!
