The cover to the first album was a 10 in England, because they did NOT put the name of the band on it -- just the photo. That was a ballsy move and unheard of at that (or any) time.
Yes, and after what DA wrote above about voting in the rock poll - about voting for the "now", well, when voting on this question, we got to look back to the past to when this LP was first released. We can only vote on this by going by what the producers of the LP had to go by back then. Nobody back in the early '60s had any idea where rock music was going, as it still wasn't even around for 10 years at that point. Plus back then, nobody knew what other LP covers would look like in just a few short years. So we got to look back as to what things were like in the early '60s, when we vote on this question. Showing the artists on the cover of their LPs back then was important and almost always done. That stuff isn't the case as much today of course.
The Beatles have NO songs about sex that I know of,
You really think that? McCartney flat out said after the song WDWDIITR was released, that yes, it was about having sex, although he noted the sex taking place wasn't human sex, but it still was sex. If I recall, Paul was visiting some country when he saw two monkeys having sex in the middle of a dirt road. He then wrote the song and many took it for humans doing it in the road. Then there's more than one song on there written by John about sex. HIAWG is clearly using a double meaning there, and one of the meanings for the "warm gun" is the male penis, no question about it.
Even John & Yoko naked on the cover of an album didn't make it sexual, or sexy.
You are 100% correct on that one! Even with the title of that LP being "Two Virgins", even that title had nothing to do with sex. Them being nude was more a naturist thing/statement, as them going nude was just the 2 of them standing there as they were, as in being 2 people with nothing to hide.
I can't believe the accordion poll included no songs by my favorite Irish band the Pogues.
I saw some songs by this band listed under songs with a accordion, but I know little about them and their music, so that was why they weren't listed. I do see they formed in the early '80s, so they barely would make it on a classic rock poll list I guess, even if they were a punk band. I usually cut off listing any bands or artists who's first record was made after '88 or so. But of course, even that depends on what the poll questions is about, too.
"If I Should Fall From Grace With God" would've been a good poll choice. Not rock, you say? Bullshit, sez me. The Pogues are 1000x more rock & roll than Billy Joel.
I will list this song in the poll for you and give it one vote for starters, since you already voted and can't again. But please note, I never said they weren't rock, again, I don't know their songs or their music. But I do know Billy Joel, and like him or not, he is still rock n roll (to me)!
