The cover to the first album was a 10 in England, because they did NOT put the name of the band on it -- just the photo. That was a ballsy move and unheard of at that (or any) time. I gave a 7 for the American version with the added-on explanation of who and what the picture was of. Made business sense I guess, but not quite the same as the original idea.
The Beatles have NO songs about sex that I know of, whereas Stones songs are ALL about sex, whether it's overt or not. Even John & Yoko naked on the cover of an album didn't make it sexual, or sexy. The Beatles = LOVE, the Stones = SEX.
I can't believe the accordion poll included no songs by my favorite Irish band the Pogues. I've had the extreme pleasure of seeing them many times and have met James Fearnley, their accordion player. He is the most heroic, physical accordion player in music history. "If I Should Fall From Grace With God" would've been a good poll choice. Not rock, you say? Bullshit, sez me. The Pogues are 1000x more rock & roll than Billy Joel.
Since they weren't on the poll I chose the great Garth Hudson and "When I Paint My Masterpiece", one of my favorite Dylan covers ever.
