Song titles/Overrated Pt 6/Solo Lennon

We enter week 680 of our Stones poll with this question: Which song title by the Stones makes the least sense? This would be in regard to the lyrics of course. If you look at most of the Stones songs, all of the titles make good sense, with just a few exceptions.

This poll’s choices list 8 songs, but only six poll choices to choose them from. This is because 3 songs are grouped together as one choice: “Dance”, “Dance Pt1” and “If I Was a Dancer (Dance Pt 2)”. At first I only had “If I Was a Dancer (Dance Pt 2)” listed, since it was the first one of the 3 recorded, yet it was titled as being Part 2. But that was also the case for the other two songs, their parts were not correct either. “Dance Pt1” was the last of the 3 to be recorded, so why not call it Dance Pt3, since it was? True, it was the first Dance titled song to be released, but you usually go by the order the songs were recorded in, not how they are released. Plus, why doesn’t “Dance”, the last one released, have a part? So for these 3 songs only, it’s their parts (or lack of a part), that makes little sense, and not so much their connection to the lyrics, which is the case for the other songs listed.

I feel if you listen close enough, you might be able to figure out why even these other 5 songs were titled as they were, other than the Bill Wyman song, which BTW, wasn’t titled by Bill. It got that title long after it was recorded in ’68, and before it was released in ’75.

In last week’s Stones poll we asked: Are you willing to keep paying top ticket prices to see the Stones, if they should tour again later this year? Well, you can look at the final results to this question in several different ways. The answer that was picked the most was: “Nope, they may still be worth it, but I can't afford the steep prices they charge.”, with 32.9% agreeing to this. That’s a 9.5% increase in this pick from the last time we asked this question in ’07. But still, 53.9% of the fans say they would go and see the band again if given the chance. Another 13.2% said the Stones just are not worth seeing anymore.

You can check out the full, final results here: Stones Weekly Poll – week 679.

Now let’s head over to week 322 of the Classic Rock Poll, where it’s finally time to find out the answer to this question: Who is or was the most overrated male rocker? (Part 6 of 6) . We are going with the top 5 songs picked in each of the first 5 parts of this poll.

So let’s first look at the final results from last week’s two poll questions, for Parts 4 and 5. For Part 4, here is the top 5: Gene Simmons (25.1%); Johnny Rotten (24.4%); The Edge (23.3%); Meatloaf (3.6%); and Peter Gabriel (3.1%)…. For Part 5: Ted Nugent (33.6%); Boy George (21.7%); Ace Frehley (12.1%); Andy Gibb (7.9%); and Kurt Cobain (6.4%)

You can check out the full, final results from Part 4 here: Rock Poll – Part 4, and the final results from Part 5, here: Rock Poll – Part 5,.

To cast your vote in Part 6 of this question, click here: Classic Rock Poll.

Let’s move over to the Beatles weekly poll, where it’s week 75, and its question is: On what post Beatle song did John Lennon shine the brightest on? I guess you could call this part 2 of last week’s question about Lennon. You will see a list of the top 50 solo Lennon songs to choose from before you vote.

To make your pick in this week’s Beatle poll, just click here: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatle poll, we asked: On what solo album did John Lennon shine the brightest on? The top 3 picks were: Imagine at 40.3%; John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band with 33.4%; and Double Fantasy at 14.2%.

You can check out the full, final results of this Beatle poll at this link: Beatle’s Weekly Poll – week 74. The final top results from this poll will also show up on this Beatles/Lennon List page: www.keno.org/john_lennon/lennon_polls.htm .

As usual, thanks to all of you who vote in our polls!

In closing, I wanted to slip in a personal note. This week I became a great-grandfather! Yeah, you read that right, “great” before “grandfather”. I think of people in their 90s as being great grandparents, not somebody my age, but my 20 year old grandson Keifer decided to follow the family tradition of becoming a parent while still a kid himself. It just seems so strange that Keifer has his own family already! So please let me close here with a shout-out of “welcome to the world”, to my new grandson Jaxson, I can’t wait to meet you buddy!
