That's why I dropped Sirius. When they sucked up XM. all the music stations except Underground Garage took on the programming of XM. Final straw was the day I was listening to Classic Vinyl and they played Another Brick n the Wall - the song isn't the issue - and then I flipped to Classic Rewind and they played a couple songs and then Another Brick in the Wall comes on. So I figured I'd go to The Vault or Deep Cuts or whatever that was and I heard some old song by Traffic and then Another Brick in the Wall came on. I called and cancelled right then and there.
I understand their overlap on the Vinyl/Rewind stations, but the deep cut one should never play anything like that. What really bugs me is that because labels are all bought up by communications conglomerates these days, they push the "only Classic Rock is good Rock" thing on all their stations, so they can sell back catalog, which costs pennies to the dollar of cultivating new artists. I would love to hear a station play Neil Young's Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and follow it up with a Lydia Loveless song or a song by Deer Tick.
What really sucks is that this would have been the normal progression of AOR radio if they hadn't allowed all that conglomeration. They used to play The Yardbirds and Tom Petty and The Cars on the same stations in the late 70's. It worked great. If you didn't like a song, it wasn't that big a deal because you'd probably like the next one. They just don't even try to do that anymore and that's why radio is moving to talk on the FM dial more and more.
I'm not saying all the music I like should be what everyone is listening to. I understand that I have my own skewed opinions of what's great and what sucks, but there's a lot of bands that deserve the exposure that so many shitty classic rock bands don't deserve to keep getting, and if that stopped, I think radio would actually stand a chance against the Internet.
