I don't think she's considered a Frontwoman, and perhaps she's not the best, but I was very impressed with Melissa Etheridge when I saw her. The power went out, and she immediately started singing to the front rows a song that those of us further out couldn't hear. Gradually, as the audience started singing with her, the song reached us: she was singing "Mercedes Benz." I thought that was a graceful save, and kept the audience happily engaged. I don't usually think of quick saves during a mishap as part of the Frontperson's job description, but I guess it is.

I think of the very young Mick Jagger at Altamont trying to soothe that waspish crowd with a calm, gentle voice. Poor kid.
