I guess Jimi Hendrix would count if you consider that the Jimi Hendrix Experience was a real band and not just Jimi playing with the same two back-up guys each time. All I've seen of Jimi live was his performance at Woodstock so I don't feel qualified to comment here (which is what I just did anyway. LOL).
I like Jim Morrison in short bursts. Love him on The End, but I feel he was a weak-link in the Doors
This is a comment that you don't hear too often! I respect your views, but I must disagree. The surviving members of the band tried to go on for a couple of years after Jim's death. They released two studio albums which pretty much sank without a trace. This, to me, shows that there could be no Doors without Jim.
