I want to mention that I hope contrary opinions aren't taken as personal attacks, but as an interest in hopefully learning something. I respect everyone's opinion and music knowledge here, and hope that if there's some fantastic Macca gem that I'm probably missing out on (and I probably am - he's had a long career), that I'll be directed to it.
For a while, I was finding new releases by Paul and searching for tracks not played constantly in grocery stores, but even if I was initially taken by some of them, they sort of just inevitably drifted to the bottom of my collection after a month. "Maybe I'm Amazed" is a staggering masterpiece, but I just can't find anything with the same sincerity and ambition of that tune in his catalog. "Cute but forgettable" is the best way I can describe everything else that I kind of enjoy.
As for the singles and hits, they're often just really irritating to me with how dated and mannered they come off, or they simply go in one ear and out another. As for Band on The Run, the title track really feels like a guy taping pieces of music together with fishing wire and tape, even if they don't really fit or belong. Everything else on the album is just kind of... cute but forgettable. I'll give it a listen over time, though. Opinions can always change.
