My wfe's parents lved wth us for severl years, Mom wth dmenta. It was so sad, but we always found humor n some fo the things Peg did or sad. Her personality was still there, but the confusion and difficulties for life was very difficult for her and us. We didn't make fun of her, but we still laugh at some of the thngs she said or did. My mom was also demented. She would get very angry when she could not remember somethng. I'm 65 years old and fnd myself forgetting a lot of little thngs (sometimes not so little and more so as I get older) and I attribut it to age, but I fear the worst. (Sorry, my "i" key is stcky)
