My Dad has Vascular Dementia and Alzheimers in the early stages - it's different for everyone - he knows what things look like, but sometimes needs prompting to remember what things are called!!
Correct, it is different for everybody. My dad also had Dementia the last 10 years of his life. He could remember things that took place 60 years ago in his life but he could not recall anything that took place in the last year or two.
I also had a friend who came down with Alzheimers when he was only around 62. He was my best friend's dad, and I knew him for over 20 years. He was a weatherman like me (except he had a degree in the field) and after his son moved out of the country for a few years, we became good friends. He would drop by my house and we would talk about forecasting weather (you got to be into it to understand why people like us bond on that). Anyway, a few years after he got sick, I went over to visit, and when he saw me he had a puzzled look on his face, and he said to me "Who are you?". He had no clue who I was by that time even as he looked me right in the eye. So I said to him "I'm Keno", and he said to me "Keno lives in Manitou Springs up on the hill". Yes, back then I lived there, and right where he noted. So he knew where I lived, but he didn't know who I was.
