No he didn't, he just retired from touring for awhile.

It's funny, I was never a big fan of his when he was at his prime, and I never saw him live. Now I wish I did, he and Van Morrison are in the same boat with me. I never realized how excellent Van was years ago, perhaps more so than Bob was. Today I play my Van Morrison CDs and think to myself, how did I not realize how great this dude was back all those years ago?
