Steve, the first thing you should do is pick up a copy of Keno's book if you don't already have one.
Bill Wyman's Stone Alone has to be the best account of the Stones during Brian's days. Although there are probably things that he is under agreement not to disclose, his portrait of Brian comes off as rather balanced. Plus his account of the era is quite entertaining and informative.
Another excellent book is Stanley Booth's The True Adventures of the Rolling Stones. The chapters alternate between the 69 tour and the Brian days. Also entertaining and informative.
A totally different kind of book which I also strongly recommend is James Phelge's Nankering with the Rolling Stones, about the early days of the band before they were famous. Mick, Brian and Keith were sharing a dump of an apartment and the book's author was the fourth tenant. A truly hilarious account of a period we don't hear that much about.
The last book I strongly recommend is Graham Ride's Foundation Stone. Graham shared an apartment with Brian in Cheltenham, before Brian left for London to try and make a living as a blues musician. A nice early portrait of the man who would go on to start the Rolling Stones.
I believe that all of these books are out of print but they shouldn't be too hard to find online, with the possible exception of Graham's book, but there is an email addy in my copy that you can write to, and I'll give it to you if you're interested.
