You know what FPM, I think you were there in '96, not '97, so maybe it was July of '96?? Or maybe I'm just forgetting! I know I got there around September of '96, after I read a post about the place on the Stones newsgroup, and I was thinking you were already there by then. A few of the current Gassers were there before me, as well as our old friend Gerry, who started the LARS board (don't know if you heard that she passed away about a year ago).
My first post at Stonesworld was a reply to a post which DREW BLOWS made, and that was followed by a reply flame by Maxluger (I know you remember both of them). I heard from DREW in the last year, he got a password to post here at that time, but he never did make a post. But I do wonder what happened to some of our old friends from back in those days who just vanished from the web it seems.
Gasland officially started up right after Dec 1, of '98. It was on either Dec 2 or 3, one of those dates. I actually had the board up in November of '98, but it wasn't officially opened at that time, as I was just testing it out. I know you remember our young friend Temple. It was his tragic death on Oct 31 of '98, that got me to open Gasland. Up till that time I was working on building keno.org, along with the Stones site, but I haden't made up my mind if I would also have a message board on the domain. Then when Temple was killed, I saw that news on the Exile from Stonesworld board, a place that was in it's last few weeks, and where the Stonesworld refugees all went to post - until the storm hit in the summer of '98, then that place was almost dead for about 2 months - until the post about Temple being killed was made - and then I realized that all of the folks from Stonesworld were still lurking there (like myself), we all just stopped posting, but all of us made single reply posts in that thread to say goodbye to Temple, and I realized that day a new board was needed. That was when I knew I had to put Gasland together, and a few weeks later I did just that.
Gasland to this very day, still looks exactly like the old Stonesboard board, perhaps the reason why you were forgetting where you stated out! In fact, up until '01, it was run using the same CGI based program, and why the archives from '99 till '01 are separate from the archives from this now ASP run board. Yes, the old CGI program that ran Gasland back in '98, still runs it's old archive section today, which can be still found on top of our board's home page via its link. You just can't post into those archives any longer, as I took down that option years ago. I just don't wish to run two different board! But everybody can still read some of the old posts made from back then, even if 90% of the old posts are now gone. CGI was/is a sever hog when it comes to taking up server space, so each month back in the old days I had to deleted 90% of the posts made from the month before, as we used to be on a shared server back then.
Shit, I'm typing away here and I'm forgetting that I got a July 4th parade to be at in the next hour, so I got to go! Happy 4th to all!
Note: Do not hit the "Post Message" button more than once, even if it is taking a long time to post your message. Doing so may cause a double post to appear and could slow down your posting time even more.
