RE: 15 years!

Yes, Stonesworld, where most of us old-timers all met, went down in flames, if I recall, in late '97. To think it was taken down by - well you know who - a handle I'll never bring up here again. That same sick person brought down two or three other Stones boards after Stonesworld, including Exile From Stonesworld, and then the prick tried to do the same thing here a few months after we opened - but we had my friend Tee on on our side, a dude who knew (and still knows today) more than anybody else knows about web security, and he helped save this place with a defense system that couldn't be beat! But before his help, when we were first hit by the nut-job, he managed one day in late January of '99, to fuck with the board and we ended up losing all of the archives from late '98 to late Jan of '99.

For the record, I first started to post on the Usenet Stones Newsgroup, around mid '95. That was another crazy place, no webmaster running it, as is still the case today with newgroups, and that was the same problem that Stonesworld had.

Gasland is the oldest and longest running Stones board on the net, there are no other Stones boards that has been around longer than this joint, regardless of the lie noted at that other web site. I don't know why their founder states that. Now yes, off the web, the Stones Newsgroup was first, and (I guess) it's still around, but it's not a web based message board, it's a newsgroup. For the newer web users, Usenet newsgroups are regarded as a hybrid between email and web forums, they look like a BBS, and they been around since 1979. They were the precursor to the various Internet forums/boards of today. You could even say that today they are a part of the web, in the same way email is a part of the web, but if you understand how they operate, they aren't URL based, and are not ever on any one server, as web domains and web boards are. They started out before there was an internet.

But damn, as far as web boards go, the Land of Gas has been around a long time! Heck, they didn't even call places like this "forums" yet when Gasland first started up, Ronnie!
