Ronnie Wood Hammersmith Apollo - 30th June 2012

So . the evening started with Ronnie walking onstage with a 7 year old boy who looked just like a little Ronnie - well without all the lines and so on!! 'Twas amazing. There was this little boy, six string on body and Ronnie with guitar. Ronnie introduced him, but I was too full of "oh how cute" emotions to pay attention, but I think it must've been one of his grandsons 'cos he did say this little person was seven and that he looked just like him at that age - actually he looked just like that when he was in the Jeff Beck Group and also in the Faces when Ronnie was drop dead gorgeous!! So, the two of them performed Hoochie coochie Man with Ronnie on vocals - kinda reminded me of Ronnie's big bro. Art who always sang that whenever the opportunity arose, but Ronnie sang it better!! Then Ronnie, on stage by himself, gave a brief history of Chess Records, with excerpts from loads of different songs (really can't remember everything, so won't mention anything, but it was truly amazing). Then Ronnie introduced the house band - once again I can't remember everyone - on bass (well at least I remember SOMETHING) - Bill Wyman, who much to my surprise was smiling throughout the event. Hamish Stuart (Average White Band), two drummers - one from some famous band the name of whom waltzed straight through my brain, two keytboards players (neither one did I recognise), two sax players who danced around the stage and were very entertaining - no clue who they were, but they reminded me of the way our fabulous quirky band Madness move around - and of course Ronnie. Loads more blues songs, lots of different people joining in - Mick Taylor was onstage much of the night, though to say he was part of the house band would be a slight exaggeration on the truth 'cos he wasn't there at the start, and he disappeared for a few songs during the night. There were loads of guest singers, though Ronnie did a splendid job of singing and (fortunately) not talking too much (like on his radio show) inbetween songs. He was sooo enthusiastic about the songs, was soooo into what he was doing, and was clearly having a fabulous time up there onstage. I can't keep up with all these singers - there was one Scottish female singer Sharleen Spiteri (was in band called Texas, now solo singer) - loads of great people. AND then ...... last but not least, my favourite "new recording artist of 2012" walked onto the stage - I was sooo excited to see him in May this year in a small theatre at the Bamboozle Festival on the Jersey Shoreline (New Jersey) ........ YES ...... the very wonderful .......... JAMES McCARTNEY!!!! Woo hoo!!! I was so exhilerated that I acted totally out of order with this flippin' boring audience ...... I STOOD UP and DANCED!!!! Well, until the flippin' boring people told me to sit down because I was blocking their view - they didn't take too kindly to my encouraging them to STAND UP!!! British boring folk at their very British boring best!!!! Anyway, fortunately by the encore everyone was on their feet, including the miserable folk behind me, so I was able to move around a bit!!! I was mortified by the audience - think 1965 at Hammersmith Odeon - only the flippin' place is now called the Apollo and it's nearly fifty years later, and audiences are different nowadays - not that most of the people there would've known, most of them were fossilized in their goodness only knows what - certainly not a Faces audience!!! They weren't even stoned, so that couldn't have been an excuse for sitting like fossils on the beach waiting for the sun to bronze them!!!! Well, I was very good and danced sitting down for most of the show!!! Sooo..... I took loads of photos - something usually not allowed at Hammersmith Apollo, but there appeared to be a lack of security people there (clearly evident in the fact that at the end several people from the audience got up on the stage. I've never seen that at Hammersmith before. Anyway, I'm in the middle of uploading all my photos (untouched 'cos I know people are in a hurry to hear something - and photos speak louder than words - I guess Rod Stewart got something right when he sang Every Picture Tells A story - there's a couple that are a bit blurry and should've been deleted, but when I start editing them I take ages, and everyone seems too hungry for info. here to wait for little tweaks - such as lightening some so that you can see Mick Taylor more clearly - sorry folks).
