My first show was in 1975, and every tour since them carried with it the awful possibility that it COULD be the last time.
This is news to me -- the Stones were extremely young in 1975, so the jokes about the "strolling bones" would be years later. I got into the Stones when the idea that the might not continue was swirling, but I thought it was because of the annoying "strolling bones" remarks, or people saying "they're old" or it's "geriatric rock" that might lead to any given tour being "the last time." I guess knowing that those rumors swirled in 1975 means that there probably won't be a "last tour" EVER, except in retrospect. In other words, I don't think that the Stones will ever go on tour thinking it's the last time.
