It is Friday Brothers and Sisters. The last day of the work week for the majority of us. The gateway to rest and relaxation, good times and good friends. And it occurs to me that for Centuries, if not from the beginning of time, Man has sought different ways to get High. An altered state of consciousness.
Hunter S. Thompson put it well, "He who makes a beast out of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man." Sometimes we need to "unleash the beast". Put life's responsibilities and worries on a shelf and go for the pleasurable High. Forget "the pain of being a man" and choose the "illegal smile" John Prine sang about, or simply slam some beers and shots with some friends while listening to The Rolling Stones or some other great Rock artists.
Experience the buzz and the beast. (Just make sure you don't drive drunk. That $30 cab ride is a great deal cheaper than the thousands of dollars spent on a lawyer and fines associated with a DUI ! And the cops are out there looking for you - The bastards! DUIs are big business for governments now.) And for Godssake stay away from the stupid drugs like crack and meth. Sold by greedy, souless assholes to turn you into a junky and line their pockets with cash, while your life, and spirit, takes a direct nose dive to the very bottom of human existence. Who needs that?!
No. We need the "Beautiful Buzz" or even the natural high nature can bring us on the weekend. Hell, combine the two. I often do. That can be twice the kick! Go tubing down a crystal clear river or stream and then later that night ice cold beer with burgers by the campfire. Then more beer by the campfire with the boombox spinning cool music.
Perhaps I'm a simple man, but I call that, "Heaven". I love the "beautiful buzz" in moderation. Always have and likely always will.
