There is so much $$$ involved in music publishing rights that it just becomes too tempting to try and grab a bigger share of the pie. The problem is not unique to the Stones. And even though George was allowed to get some of his songs recorded when the Beatles were together, he was still unhappy because he wanted to get more than one or two songs per album. And he did have a lot of unused songs that he put together on his great album, All Things Must Pass.
The Glimmers made a mistake by hogging the song writing credits. Everyone makes mistakes. The correct thing to do is to own up to them. Enough water has gone under the bridge now (way more than enough, in fact). The Glimmers should admit that some of their songs were, in fact, written in part or in whole by others. They still have a catalogue that they can justifiably be more than proud of.
But maybe they don't want to admit that what is perhaps the greatest riff the band ever came up with is in fact not Keith's, but Bill's...
