I couldn't disagree more with you. You're usually on point, but not here. Guns N Roses were the biggest band in the world for a while. They not only kept hard rock going at a pretty lame time for music (except for Steel Wheels of course), but they influenced the music landscape for years.During that period, everyone loved them. I didn't. I was so into Steel Wheels and Keith's Talk is Cheap, I got into them in the mid 90's. Appetite is great from start to finish, Lies has a few great ones, and The 2 Use Your Illusions are very good. Their live album rocks. I never got into the sex Pistols, and couldn't name 1 song. But I understand their relevance and history. I think more people were into GNR and they had a bigger impact.
