For the past 4 years I was playing out pretty regularly in a delta blues duo so I pretty much listened to blues and the albums of whomever we had a show with, which of course, was pretty much blues influenced, for the most part. Since I have a vagina, I slanted more towards chick blues (lucille bogan being my #1 chickie, bessie, victoria spivey, memphis minnie), but I found myself lissening a lot to Laverne Baker, just to warm up. She's kickass. Boys it was pretty much Son House and this old album by Lightnin' Hopkins, which was sparse too.
One band we played with in partickler I listened to probably more than the others was this chick duet from BC called "The Pack A.D." I guess they were pretty white stripesy, as they were just a guitar and drums, but I found the singer's phrasing interesting.
Other than that, my tastes run pretty similar to 2K's (I usually like whatever he posts), though unlike 2K, I haven't bought a recent release in a long time. I have a lot of shit to listen to, and still find myself being stodgy and going back to my standbys. Like, my buddies just got back togther and put out a record, but i haven't heard it yet. They gave it to us on this weird piece of paper with a CDbaby download code and it just freaks me out. So I just go and listen to warren zevon instead.
I guess that's a weird thing is our laptops are not in anyway connected to the stereo, so the listening experience would be kinda tinny. I usually go for the turntable.
At the risk of rambling too much, I still put on a lot of Waylon. He just makes me happy.
