Today is the real start of it all, folks...
50 years ago today marks the very first session of Blues Incorporated at the Ealing Club in Soho, London. It is not an exaggertion to say that just about all the music we here love was sparked by this.
the band on opening night:
Aleis Koerner - guitar, vocals
Cyril Davies - Harmoica
Andy Hoogenboom - stand up bass
Dave Hexstall - Smith Saxophone
Art Wood - vocals (yes, Ronnies big brother )
and on drums from the beginning, a shy advertising art trainee named Charles Robert Watts
Even though the blues had been growing in popularity in Britain, there had never been a place for aficionados to gather to hear it. The joint was packed from the start that night - including this ne'er do well blonde semi-genius who had already been occasionally sleeping on Koerner's couch, who had already busked around Scandinavia, and had fathered at least TWO illegitimate kids already. He hitched down from his home in Cheltenham, and was already thinking of forming his own band. Yes, Lewis-Hopkin Brian Jones.
Couple of weeks later a car load of kids form the suburb of Dartford would venture into the Ealing - including a skinny big lipped economics student named Mike, and a skinny spotty faced indifferent art student named Keith, sometimes known as Ricky, and a couple of other friends.
This my friends, is the start of it all...
And Ronnie, how crazy is it your brother was part of this?
