I'm sure he's a talented guy in many ways, and is able to play more instruments than just the drums. However, the common defense for Ringo that I hear is simply akin to, "hey, he keeps the beat - it's fine." That's just bullshit. It should be clear to everyone that *drummers are artists, too*. They can elevate material. Often, I find myself wondering what Beatles songs would sound like if they had someone as creative, fast, and loose as Mr.Watts backing them, and it's genuinely, justifiably distracting.
