Yes I agree, but the Stones are really no different in that regard. Here's an illustration:
Original Lineup: THE ROLLING STONES
Brian goes: The Rolling Stones
Bill goes: the rolling stones
Original Lineup: THE WHO
Keith goes: The Who
John goes: the who
They both kept the name of their respective bands, but those names don't begin to carry the weight they once did. The original Rolling Stones and the original Who were unique bands because of the dynamic that each member of the original lineups brought together into a single performing unit that sounded like no other. Same with The Beatles. Ronnie is certainly no slouch on guitar, but he fit in well because he adapted successfully to the Stones style of music, having had no role in creating it.
