RE: Comments and questions on Keno's book

Most of the questions asked in the book I do answer, but a few of them I only half answer - including the two you bring up. When I put that chapter together, I used the questions I get asked the most, both in emails (believe me, they come in all the time!) or ones asked here. Most of the answers came from the different insiders I spoke to, or I just just knew the answers myself for years. Some of them nobody seems to know for sure, but I still included them and answered them the best I could.

The one on Linda McCartney, who at the time was Linda Eastman, was one question I didn't get a straight answer on when I inquired myself. It was one of those things added to the book late, so instead of having several different people to talk about it to, I only asked two. I had heard this story about Linda many years ago, but it never came up again and like so many things, I just didn't think about it when I first wrote the book. But them after the book was written and the delays came about, it was during that time this question came to me again in an email and I knew it was a good one to include. But although I had heard this too, at this point only my regular connections I had left to ask. I asked Philip K and his answers was a simple "Oh yea, I heard that too" but he had nothing more to add. Then there was James K, who on the particular night when I asked him, well we were talking about several things and he never answered it for me. James talks real fast - in other words, he has a very thick NY accent that even I have a hard tome following on the phone. Like myself, he goes from one conversation to another in a second and that was what happened the time I asked him that question.

The one about the troubadours I find very interesting and nobody I asked could say for sure since it is one of those questions about SFTD lyrics which Mick says little about. He and most songwriters do that, it helps to keep the fire burning for the song, so why give away the answer. So yes, for that one I supplied a few answers, none of which I meant to appear to me more likely to be fact than the others. I like the Beatles answer the most, it has a lot of clues, including the death of Brian Epstein when the Beatles were in India on that very well-known and covered trip, and whom was suppose to go along with them but didn't make it at first, he then died a few days later, before he got there.... But the troubadours very well could have been the others noted in the book, too.

Did Philip Kamin take most of them [photos]?

He owns most of them (about 80%) and took many of the ones you see from the late 70s to mid 80s. As noted by DA, I cover that in the LARS interview, so do head over there for more on that so I can save some time here.

I love the one that is in the Table of Contents of Mick and Ronnie. It is only the second photo you see in the book when you open it up and a excellent way to get it all going I felt, great placement in there!

We can thank Gasser Keefer (the book's co-Photo Editor) for that placement and for that one photo making the book! Philip has thousands of these never seen photos and the day I was at his pad, I was looking at many of them (not just Stones pictures). It was an overwhelming job trying to decide which ones to use and I do not recall picking that one out (or even seeing it). A few months later I asked Keefer to help me out in choosing more photos and thank goodness he did..... Most of the placement of the photos in the book was at first set by Philip, since he had the photos in hand. He takes great photos, yes, but when it comes to organizing them, well that wasn't his specialty. Years ago when I set up his web site of all those photos of so many different artists that the shot in the post, well I did all of the photo layouts for him. But since we live 2,000 miles apart and I didn't have the Stones photos myself in hand, he at first handled that. But after I did see the placements, they were not to my liking and I asked Keefer, who lived closer to where Phil was, if he would help, and he did. Yes, that one of MJ and Ron fit on that page real nice, and it was Keefer's idea to add a photo there. At first no photos showed up till after the T of C.

the only non-Stones related photo in the book, of the Beatles, is also excellent. I never saw that one before either! Where did you find that?

From Philip Kamin's collection. Let me tell you, Philip is sitting on a goldmine of never seen Beatles photos that he owns. Before he asked me to do this book, he was about to publish a book of these rare Beatle photos with the well known pop artist Peter Max, who painted psychedelic colors behind the photos. Since Philip knows and worked for so many rockers, he had them write comments for each photo/picture in the book and he got Paul McCartney to write the book's forward. He then had 25 copies of the book (well, a mini version of it) printed up for different potential publishers to look at. But he didn't get the price he wanted and the book never came out (it is still suppose to in time, so he tells me). But anyway, I was the only non-publisher to get a copy of the book, and it will be one super cool book if it ever sees the light of day.... Since chapter one of RTTS is mainly about the Beatles, I wanted a Beatles photo in there. Philip told me I could use any photo he owned of the Beatles and I choose that one.... On a side note, I can add, that it was this Beatle book Philip was working on at the time that really lead to RTTS. We were talking about his friendship with Macca and these other rockers he knows and how they were writing the book for him, and that lead in turn to him asking me to write RTTS.

Ty noted:

I really need to get this book. Too bad it's not at the local barnes & noble or borders.

First, you could get a copy directly from me or any of the online stores. Second, you don't know how hard I've been working on getting the book into off line stores. My distributor has 35 reps across the US who show my book and a few hundred other books off to store book buyers. That isn't enough for a first time author like myself. So for the last couple of weeks, when I have a couple of hours to spare, I've been getting in touch with mainly mom and pop stores across the US, Canada, the UK and Netherlands. Man does this take up a chunk of time, but it is the only way to do this. Yes, I could do a email blast which takes seconds, but those do not work anywhere as well. Most look at that as spam. So I am personalty getting a hold of stores one at a time. There is no way I can reach all stores of course, but I can get to many and yes, several have said they will carry the book. This has also lead to several offers to do book signings, too. But the big chain stores like B & N and Borders are a different story. They are a lot harder to get in to. But I am trying and it is talking up all of my free time. Heck, with the holiday season just down the road, I find the next few weeks as a very important time to get a hold of these places. Today that was all I did, and tonight I'm a bit drained - with more of the same on tap for tomorrow. That is why I ask anybody reading this (like you Ty) to call up their local bookstores and request a copy, such places will order it if you ask. I should note that yes, the book seems to be selling well online, but I got to get it in off line stores.
