I had it that ALO figured that 6 band members was one too many, and that the conventional lineup of guitar-guitar-bass-drums-vocal was defining for his vision of what this particular 5-piece band should consist of. Stu's appearance being at odds with the band didn't help him much, but he would have probably been a goner even if he had fit in visually. Nonetheless, he was a huge talent and The Stones were fortunate indeed that he stayed on to lend a hand.
