>I'm definitely not the kind of person who is interested in deifying any band or artist, even if it's the Stones.<
Right on the money, LS. Be yourself. THAT is the real message of the Stones anyway. That's the way I see it. The Stones created fantastic music with their own individual perceptions and opinions. Free thought. Yet freedom of thought and action for all individuals seems to be the overall message concerning "lifestyle".
The Stones are not spiritual guides. And that is just fine with me. I appreciate their point of view without wanting to embrace it as my personal lifestyle 100% of the time. I may gain some inspiration from it, but not a paint by numbers credo to live by. I think for myself too much for that. I'm just arrogant enough to think I can blaze my own trail. And I'm not a hypocrite concerning individualism. I tend to gravitate in friendship towards those with a unique point of view. Even when that point of view differs significantly from my own.
I admire John Lennon and his point of view for example. But I'm not going to drop acid 100s of times because he did. He found it "Safe As Milk". I see it differently. I gained experience. I've experimented in the past, but I'm not a sheep and never will be... Just because it was John's lifestyle at one point, does not mean I should adopt that lifestyle as my own. Same thing with Keith and his heroin addiction. I admire Keith in many ways but... be just like him? Nah!
He's a guitar God. But NOT a God. The Stones are so good throughout history we tend to see them as larger than life Gods. They are amazing in the area of making music. "Godlike" in that area. If you are a musician, then study them for hours on end, musically.
I chose my own lifestyle years ago. It undergoes some changes here and there because I am not closed minded enough to think any one "lifestyle" is the only way to go for a lifetime. Times change. Circumstances change. Some adaptation is positive to keep growing but NEVER sacrifice the things you love, which "define" you, for anybody. If that is asked of you they really don't love you anyway.
