>The Fabulous Thunderbirds and the Nighthawks used to play in New Orleans a lot in the early 80s. They were good bar bands. I saw them at Tippatina's so you can't get better than that.<
Yes. Similar style bands. Very similar..
I had the thought today, as I was listening to that cool boot in my "Stonesmobile", that the Nighthawks are essentially the Blues Brothers on steroids! LOL Cooler, louder, more guitar based, and more whiskey soaked by years of expereince. The Blues Brothers would be a poor man's, 'The Nighthawks'. Imagine the Blues Brothers as one seriously Rocking band with a fast as Nugent lead guitar player and a nearly everpresent perfect wailing harmonica and a pace twice as fast overall than ol Jake and Elwood. It was Blues based music but 4 out of 5 songs were played at a frantic, foot stomping pace.
Jim Thackery could really play his ass off. He could make that guitar talk shit all night long. The rhythm section was tight and the lyrics were barroom fun. Only reason they never became huge, as I see it, is because the vocals were just "good", and not outstanding. Everything else was in place. Everything else was perfect rocking, beer guzzling, ectasy!
I'm glad I'm not the only one Undercover! It's great you got the chance to hear them too.
