I totally agree with you, there is NO reaosn why Ronnie should be turned down. Especially if he is playing crucal eparts liek teh MAIN ryhtym to Oh No Not You gain, Kieth is simply playing a few licks and a solo yet Ronnie is playign the main ryhtym but was hardly even heard on teh Bang tour. I have stated in the past, a couple of years ago. That I feel Ronnie received alot of adulation during the Steel Wheels tour. In fact more people seemd to think Ronnie was the cool one (from my experiences and generation) than Keith. I really felt that this and the advent of the BIG screen Keith became a posser and more self centered and Ronnie was subsequently turned down and surpressed. It kidna started duirng the Voodoo Lounge tour. It got really bad during the Babylon tour, Ronnie was hardly even audible. Yeah seem people say it was becuase he was out of it, but it simply not true. Try an imagine playing guitar in band were you really not needed. Mianly becuase the kepboard player, main guitarists and back up musicains lay the foundation. The stones during the Babylon tour became less of a rock band. I watch Ronnie playing cool stuff on Out of Control, the ryhtym to Flick the Switch and other stuff but You can't hear him, he is playing. Licks tour gave him a chance to be heard again for the first time sicne Voodoo Lounge. But he was abit rusty since he got loaded and became the cheer leader for a band the relagated his abilites becuase he was not needed. Well he is needed agian since they have ctripped back alittle btu Keith is still too loud. Listen too t he81 tour they are both lower in teh mix and about the smae level. Sometiems Ronnis is louder because he is playing Hotter than Keith. The best thing they coudl do is let Ronie cover mso tsolos and turn is rythym playing up and relagate Keith to Main rythym, jazz chords and a few licks here and there.
