Live Performances (ssc)

I was just thinking about the people who completely do not understand my, or anyone else's, lust for more and more bootlegs. The main thing they do not notice or appreciate is how different the same song can sound from one show to another....from one performance to another. Sometimes the band is REALLY feeling it! Some nights the tempo of a particular song or show is unusually slow, or unusually fast. (An indication of the drummer's mood solely? Probably not.)

The greatest "familiar" examples of this are 'Under My Thumb '81 and the '72 or '73 performances of 'Love In Vain'.

One of the best parts about collecting Dylan shows is how differently Dylan and hiis band plays a particular song, one night from another. Sometimes it is by design and sometimes it's an indication of how the band feels on a particular evening.

Your thoughts?
