IT'S A GAS, GAS, GAS !!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
(Updated 3-27-08)
![]()
WHAT CAN WE POST (WHAT ARE THE RULES) .....
First off, Keno HATES rules! So we have very few here. Post whatever is on your mind, ask questions, make statements like you do at any other board or newsgroup. Don't attack other posters for no reason other than you might not care for them, but that is not to say you can't flame someone.
Post on topic (see below about posting off topic).
WHAT CAN'T WE POST?
One thing not allowed is SPAM*!... However, STONES related spam (aka advertisements) may be allowed at times, but you must first seek permission before trying to post any, or it will be deleted.
*WHAT IS SPAM?
Spam is unwanted, off topic posts. We have ZERO tolerance for Spammers or Flooders. Posting is a privilege, not a right. If you post SPAM and or flood this board you may be billed for the cleanup at $200.00 (US) per hour, plus any Collections and or Attorney's fee's incurred in collection of this fee.
WHAT IS FLOODING?
It is the act of filling the board with unwanted posts that are on or off topic - pushing your point. Freedom of speech is supported, but not to the point of damaging any person, and or group to prove your point of view.
CAN WE POST OFF TOPIC STUFF?
Yes and no. Regulars can, as long as they post about the Stones most of the time. New comers to Gasland need to first establish themselves as regulars before posting off topic. Any off topic post(s) made by those who are not regulars will be subject to deletion or editing.
When ever posting something non-Stones on the board, you are asked to include in the subject title (NSC), which means "No Stones Content". This way folks who only want to read about the Stones here can do so.
CAN WE POST PERSONAL MESSAGES?
No. There is a thing called e-mail that all your personal messages should be used for. Please help save database space by emailing your friends instead. One exception to this, is if you don't have an email address for the person, than a one post try is ok. But please, only do this if there is no other way to get a hold of the person.
CAN WE POST USING ANY NAME/HANDLE?
Yes, you can choose to register any name/handle that is not taken already. However, you cannot use a Stones' band member's full name to post with. You will need to register your name/handle and receive your password before you will be able to post at the board. If you choose a name that is already being used, you will then need to come up with another one. Also, please note that you cannot post at the board using just initials as your name/handle, unless that was your handle prior to October, 2004. The reason for this is that using initials causes confusion as to who is who.
HOW AND WHERE CAN I REGISTER?
It's easy to register, just follow this link and follow the simple instructions you will see when you get there.
DOES IT COST ANYTHING TO REGISTER?
No, Gasland is a free web community, but please do click on our banners that you will see on top of our board once a day; and also help support our community by purchasing your CDs, DVDs, Posters, T-Shirts, etc, through our links. All of this helps pay the bills at Gasx3 and helps to keep it free, so thanks!
MUST WE POST OUR EMAIL ADDRESS?
No, but its preferred that you do.
It should also be noted that if you do post your email address, unlike in a newsgroup, it
will not result in spam mailings and.it will not be sold to any group to be used by any
advertisers.
IS THERE A WAY AROUND THE BOARD LOADING SO SLOW? - OR - HOW CAN I SPEED UP THE BOARD'S LOADING TIME? (This is usually a problem only during the last 10 days of the month)
Yes, there are three ways around this problem:
1. When you first come to the board and start to load the board's Home Page
(http://www.keno.org/gasland/post.asp), don't let the entire page load. Stop the
board's loading when you get only as far down into the month that you plan on reading, and
them hit the Stop button (X) located on top of your browser.
2. This ones works even better; after you load the
board's Home Page, place you mouse's cursor (the arrow you see on your screen) on
the post you want to read, but instead of clicking on it with your left
mouse button like you normally would do, click on your RIGHT mouse button. You will then
see a pop up box, click on where it reads "Open in New Window". By doing this
you can then read the post and it's replies in the new window that will appear. After your
done reading that thread, close the new window and the board's Home Page will
still be there and you will not have to wait for it to load over again. This saves a bunch
of time and most of the Gasland regulars do it this way. So try it out, it saves all kinds
of time!
3. This one works the best..... Get a high speed internet connection from
your ISP. Once you do you will never what to go back to dial up. But even if you do, the
first two suggestions still apply if you want to move about Gasland at your fastest!
WHAT IS A MONITORED BOARD?
A monitored board is one that only posts messages after they are reviewed and approved by the board's webmaster.
IS THIS A MONITORED BOARD?
No. The reason this board was set up and I went through the trouble to start this independent board was so we would be free to post what we want without interference from some outside source. However, in the event of the rare nutcase who stops by for the sole purpose of disrupting this board by posting uncalled for flames or spam - he/she will be banned from the board and his/her ISP will be notify of any harassment posted.
WHEN DO POSTS EXPIRE ? IS THERE AN ARCHIVE PAGE FOR THIS BOARD?
At this time some posts (but not all) are removed after 15 to 30 days. The board automatically archives old posts at the end of each month. Links to these archive pages can be found at the bottom of the board via the filter thread. There are also archive pages from our old cgi-wwwboard where additional posts and threads are kept, including fan's concert reviews from the No Security tour. Just follow the link at the top of the board to read these pages.
HOW CAN I POST CLICKABLE LINKS AND OR
PHOTOS?
You must use HTML tags to place such links or any photos. Please use this tag for LINKS:
<a href=http://place_web_address_here.com target=_blank><b>Name Link Here</b></a>
An actual working link with a real web address looks like this:
<a href=http://www.keno.org/weeklypolls.htm target=_blank><b>Stones Weekly Poll</b></a>
Using "target=_blank" in the tag will instruct the browser to open a new window with the link, so please use this in the code.
For PHOTOS, use this tag:
<center><img src=http://place_web_jpg_address_here.com></center>
An actual working photo tag with a real address looks like this:
<center><img src=http://www.keno.org/stones_images/Outofourheads.jpg></center>
Note: Only use "<center>" and "</center>" if you want the photo to show in the middle of the page, if not, then drop those from the tag.
DO NOT AT ANY TIME hot link photos from other websites unless you have permission!
Also: If you want to post a word or two in BOLD, use this code: <b>place_word_here</b>. For ITALICS use this code: <i>place_word_here</i>.
IS THERE A LIMIT ON HOW LONG A TITLE
TO A POST (OR NAME, ETC.) CAN BE?
Yes. There are different character limit numbers set for each form field. The
character limits are as follows: Name: 30; E-Mail: 50; Subject: 50; Message Body:
10,000. Note: A blank space between words or names count as one character. Example, the
name "John Smith" has 10 characters.
THE TIME THAT SHOWS ON THE POSTS, WHAT TIME ZONE IS THAT?
The posted time that shows up after you post is Mountain Time
(MT), either minus seven or minus six hours* from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
*-0700 hours in the winter (MST), -0600 hours in the summer (MDT) due to the seasonal time
changes.
WHAT DO ALL OF THESE SYMBOLS AND ABERRATIONS I SEE USED IN POSTS MEAN?
Yes, it all can be confusing and hard to understand sometimes. Check out Keno's Internet Acronyms page and also the Stones Acronyms page to help you understand what all of these acronyms mean.
WHY DIDN'T MY POST SHOW UP?
There could be more than one reasons for this. Your post may not have shown up because your browser did not reload the page, it simply pulled it out of cache. Reload your browser and it should then appear. If that doesn't work, then you may need to clear the cache in your browser.
Did you use your correct password? Try re-entering your password and see if that solves the problem.
Sometimes the cookie used to store your password (by checking the "save password box" ) can get corupt, so, remove your passoword from the paswword field, uncheck the password box, and then reload the board - then retype in your password and try posting again, if that works (and most of the time it does the trick) then reclick on the "save password box" and all shoud be cool.
There is one other situation where your post will not show up. That is if you have been banned from the board. It's very hard to be banned from the board, basically, one must be a jerk for this to happen to them. If your not a jerk and you have been banned, then email me and prove that your worthy of posting again in Gasland.
HOW LONG HAS GASLAND BEEN ON THE NET? HOW DID IT ALL GET STARTED AND WHY?

*A MESSAGE POSTING TIP*
Be patience after you write a message and hit the "Post Message" button. During peak hours our server could run a little slow and there might be a delay in the posting of your message. DO NOT hit the "Post Message" button a second time, or the "Refresh/Reload" bottons during this time frame to speed up your posting. This will only add to the time it takes for your message to appear.
